why did it not occur to me when I was told they'd be redoing the roof today that there would be tons of dust and other nasty crap, requiring me to keep windows in my sans a/c apartment closed?

Yuck. Dust is everywhere.
Also, starting at 6 freakin' 30 am sucks.
