Today I received this:

I am seriously considering walking into futureshop and asking customer service to please remove it from the packaging for me.

Seriously what the hell is with these impossible to remove hard plastic packagings of late? I just can't believe there's not a better way.

Sing it, sister. I've complained about that too. What I've been told by people who are more cynical than I am (I guess) is that they do it that way so that then you'll have to buy another gadget to help you open the packaging.

Here's the real scoop

manufacturers like the blisterpack because it looks good
retailers like it because it's hard for shoplifters to open and extract the product easily.

the blowback is how hard it is to get open at home

OOO! I know the answer to this one! (aside from drooling over the techy bits)

Get thee to Home Hardware. Dunno if you saw the commericials before Christmas but they have this packaging opener.. thing. :D It's red, looks like a wrench, and has a pokey thing that comes out, then another bit that goes in the package with a blade inside and when you zip around the plastic, the front falls right off. it says "THIS IS THE LAST PACKAGE YOU'LL EVER HAVE TROUBLE OPENING" on the front.

Yeah, just like that. When I saw it, I thought it'd be good for my 93-y-o grandfather (assuming he didn't cut himself on it like he did with the letter opener) but my mom got one for Ron for Christmas and it is seriously awesome. he opened everyone's stuff. :D

OOO! Here it is!

I second this! My sister swears by hers, and it definitely makes life a lot easier!

I bought that same USB hub, and do recall that it was a b*tch to open!!

It's called scissors.

Have you tried opening some of these packages lately? They're making
'em scissor-proof these days.

Seriously! I nearly stabbed myself when the scissors I was using to open a video game console for my daughter ended up sliding off the rock-solid plastic.

I'm starting to think the best way to open these things is with a gun or possibly a large explosive.

Can openers work magic on blister packs. Much better than scissors or knives.

Oh, really? I'll have to try that!

The plastic on dvds is the worst! Might as well just rent movies, at least that way I can watch them!
