Today, right-wing radio host Dr. Laura Schlessinger appeared on NBC’s Today Show in a segment called “Why do men cheat?” Schlessinger argued that Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D) cheated because his wife failed “make him feel like a man”:

When the wife does not focus in on the needs and the feelings — sexually, personally — to make him feel like a man, to make him feel like a success, to make him feel like her hero, he’s very susceptible to the charm of some other woman. […]

The cheating was his decision to repair what’s damaged and to feed himself where he’s starving. But yes, I hold women accountable for tossing out perfectly good men by not treating them with the love and kindness and respect and attention they need.

Apparently, it's all Spitzer's wife's fault.

You know, I hated her anyway, to be fair, but this makes me want to take her out back with my flannel wearing chola sisters from jr. high and beat her ass.

What a woman hating bitch.

And she clearly has never been with this kind of man. From my experience, they could fuck ten different women a day all day in and out and it would never ever be enough to drown out the "OMG I AM A FRAUD AND A LOSER AND EVERYONE IS GOING TO FIND OUT!" fear lurking within.

I really hope women across America rise up and tell her to go suck Tom Leykis. Seriously. She has gotten a free ride from conservative women for too long. She is no friend of any woman, conservative or not, if she is spewing that kind of utter bullshit.

I intentionally pay little attention to the shenanigans of the rich and obscene but yes, this Spitzer sitch gave me pause. I feel bad for Silda and her daughters, hell, the whole family. But blaming on the wife, for any reason...aw, jeez, now I'm going to have to bitchslap someone. What an insult to all involved - the wife, most of all, but also to imply that men are so childlike that they have to been coddled and stroked and maintained...that is ridiculous as well.

While I generally agree with the premise in her book about marriage (proper care and feeding of husbands) ~that basically, feed your man, fuck him, keep his house clean, and he'll be pretty happy~ since men are, IME, fairly simple creatures... generally... this really is insulting to men as well, like the need to be fawned on or they will spend thousands on hookers.

Yk to be honest, I don't even care that he spent money on hookers. What galls me though is he made a career going after them and to find out he was doing it himself... What a dumbass.

I agree with what someone else said though on another site... this guy got busted because he pissed off the wrong people too many times.

dr. laura has always been on my "ignore" list ;) and i agree with you -- he is a dumbass and he pissed off too many people. plus he was such a 'mr. clean' here in NY that people were so shocked by this...but it's sorta like projection in action, no?
he is even more despicable in my book for letting his wife stand there with him - he shoulda took it like a man, and made a statement alone, and not tried to make it look like , "see my wife still stands by me". he probably had to beg her to do it. maybe she did it "for the kids".

If anyone ever said such a thing in my presence, I would rip him/her apart with my bare hands. I can only imagine what Spitzer's wife is going through; the fact that she stood beside him on that podium as he announced that he'd "sinned" and did not punch him in the face makes her a saint.

I totally agree! I just watched him and his wife standing there thinking what is going through her mind right now? I couldn't do it.

I've always wished when a pol got busted for fucking around his wife would come out and say "guess what, thanks for your concern, but he's not making a statement. this is between he and I, and I will not let you use our marriage to roast him politically." But guess what... she can't since the idiot went and made a career of busting sex trade workers. IT IS their business in this case, since he's a total hypocrite. So now she gets to have her marital business all over the news. That alone would be "I should kill you" grounds for me.

I am floored also by him trying to not resign. Is he fucking kidding?! He is toast. Done. Fatty Arbuckle Done.

WORD. I cannot imagine the strength it took to do that, and to look as composed as she did. I could maybe do it, but my face would be a red blotchy mess and my eyes would be like softballs and bloodshot. And I am not sure my pride would let me do anything but become a recluse in some tiny village in Maine. But she went up there and held her head up and never once looked like she was going to fall apart or had a drop of shame (she shouldn't have any, but we still get it anyway, sort of like when anyone in your family makes an ass of themselves).
