$500 a piece to go to Halifax and back? a 20 hour drive each way?

I know. It's completely ridiculous. If you wanna give yourself a heart attack, look at the rates on the Toronto-Vancouver line.

I mean, I can kinda see the appeal of riding the rails through the Rockies, with glass-ceilinged cars and sleeper cabins and three meals a day, but not at the prices they charge. VIA is (sometimes) worth the money that they charge on routes within the Quebec City-Windsor corridor, but nowhere else in the country.

You're comparing apples and oranges here. The fees for flying will put you well above $250 per trip per person, which is what the train is charging.

VIA gives you a good discount if you book more than a week in advance. I always try to take advantage.

er no the train is 500 per person for that trip. and if I have to sleep, I am not doing it in a chair!
