why I think any "gifted" program in a US public school (probably Canada too, but I don't know anything about theirs from either child or parent perspective) is likely pathetic at best and counterproductive at worst:

Yeah, I've seen the programs form both sides here. I was shuffled around one (and treated like a freak too, fun times) and the couple years Addison was in school, he was in one... that was a lot like homeschooling.

Public schools serve average kids. Everything else they try to do is... ugh, I dunno a word for here without flailing.
