This would be one of those times.
This would be the reason.

The part I can't get over, and keep laughing every time I read it:

The new course replaces the current three options available in Quebec schools - Moral Education, Catholic Religious and Moral Instruction, and Protestant Moral and Religious Education. Quebec's Education Department says one of the program's goals is to help promote harmonious social relations in Quebec society.

That's not how Paul Gosselin sees it. He says the government is meddling where it shouldn't, infringing on parents' rights.

A social anthropologist, Gosselin wants the Central Quebec School Board to exempt his two sons from the course at their schools in Quebec City.

"In the past we always had a choice," he lamented about the previous course options.

A practising Pentecostal, Gosselin contends that the government wants to "indoctrinate" students. He also doesn't want his children exposed to beliefs that he doesn't subscribe to - "all under the pretense of neutrality, which I think is bogus."

The Central Quebec School Board has twice turned down his request for an exemption.

A fundie xian social anthropologist?
WTF?

And how does he deal with evolution being taught? (BTW Quebec schools do NOT even MENTION creationism, and anyone asking them to would probably be laughed out).

I'm just so embarrassed I live where people would actually object to a basic course of "X believe 123, Y believe 456, Q temples look like 987..." etc.

I must admit the smug jap in me really likes the nice, reasonable, rational attitude this guy took:

Mendel Marasow, executive director of Beth Rivkah Academy, an Orthodox Jewish school, acknowledged he has reservations about the course.

"I think every school is going to have to find their comfort zone within the law, within the system to make it work," Marasow told The Gazette this spring.

"If Judaism allows us to teach things, we will. If Judaism does not, we'll go back to (the ministry) and say: 'We have a problem with Paragraph 3, Paragraph 8 and Paragraph 14.' "

They might run into that problem and they'll deal with it, Marasow said. "And I believe the (ministry) will be there for us to work it out."

People are so fervent and often so defensive about their faith.

What's most laughable is that these people seem to prefer the current system where everyone is taught Catholicism or Protestantism, even those who aren't Catholic or Protestant.
