trivial: my hair! Not-so-trivial: "Chinese take-out" referring to eating cats

My buddy Kathrine dyed my hair for me tonight (she is crafty that way) and I feel like crying I am so happy. I have never loved the colour this much. It's a sweet ass honey/maple-y type colour. It's light but it doesn't make me look washed out, and it's got slight red but doesn't send off every one of my own red highlights, nor bring out every red pigment in my skin. I just keep looking going "OMG!" We also put lowlights in and damn they are done so well you can't find them specifically, but you can see the colour.

I am so happy!

And my picky when it comes to hair colour husband (who knew?!) strongly approves. Bonus! I never knew such a thing was important to him until he kept coming in the kitchen every 5 minutes, nervously, mentioning 'that looks awful red' (as a lot of hair dye does!). He has said after seeing it dry this is the "Best Colour Evar" on me. Yes pics are coming, tomorrow.

In other news, I got blasted today for saying Ruby was going for Chinese take-out, referring to her wanting to eat cats. Apparently this is racist.

When I was in China, and when Pat was there, cats and dogs both were indeed on the menu. It's simply a fact. They eat cats. And dogs. Hell Ruby herself would have been fine steak there.

Racist. I would see that as racist in a Western context. It implies that a Chinese person would come to Canada or Australia or wherever and serve culturally inappropriate (and illegal) food thus demonstrating their stupidity and/or cultural blindness.

if i'd made that joke, i probably would have only made it around people that i knew were likely to get it or who at least know me and know i'm not a raging racist.

and if i heard someone making it, my feelings about it would depend on who was saying it.

So where are the pictures of your hair?

As for the comment, eh. I can see how that could be taken as racist, but growing up in Hawaii it was just a part of life (and Hawaii is very racist - but not all in bad ways).
