This story infuruiates me and I keep forgetting to mention why.
A 23 year old man is not "dating" a 12 year old. He is molesting her. And if you've seen her pictures, she's a young 12, in a lot of makeup, not one of those with a C cup who looks 17.
Twelve year old girls do not have "boyfrinds" who are 23, they have molestors. If she was 12 at the time of the murders, he was very likely having sex with her when she was 11. ELEVEN.
At the time, Canada's age of consent was 14. It's now 16, sort of, there are lots of "if/then" clauses, mostly so we have something to use against the FLDS loons in BC).
Why the media keeps referring to this assclown as her "boyfriend" is beyond me. There's some assclown here in Montreal who claims he did not molest a 10 year old because she was his wife, and there's some evidence she was going along with that (er, accepting it as a means of survival) and no one is referring to him as her "husband" in articles.
I want to know why this man hasn't been brought up on sexual abuse of a child charges. And why the media isn't asking this.

Date: 2008-12-08 05:44 pm (UTC)I'll tell you why they're keeping up the charade: because this girl isn't a "nice girl." She's a slutty looking "bad girl" and the media doesn't like her. She's not wearing knee socks and a pony tail with fresh faced apple cheeks. She had piercings and was rather death metal/gothish.
For comparison, see how Kara Beth Borden, a homeschooled Christian 14 year old from the US of all places in *extremely* similar circumstances was treated. Christ, our unnamed 12 year old probably would have been executed by now had she been in the US :-o
