And while I'm feeling all conservative
Sep. 12th, 2008 04:08 pmI am sick and tired of hearing how criticism of Sarah Palin regarding having enough time to be VP with such a large and high maintenance family is sexist.
My concern... and many other people's... It's got nothing to do with being a woman. I'm concerned about the children. Yes of course women, and men, can have it all. Maybe just not all at once. Not everything is about feminism. Some people just think children, particularly newborn special needs children, deserve more attention than someone being VP can possibly provide.
And people keep saying "omg no one would say a thing if this was a man running." Bullshit. I would.
"No one says Stephen Harper shouldn't be PM and he has kids."
Stephen Harper has two (2) neurotypical grade school age children. I am sure they'll live. Sarah Palin has five (5) ranging from newborn with special needs they cannot even begin to fully know about yet to a pregnant teenager. The comparison is ludicrous.

Date: 2008-09-12 08:35 pm (UTC)My dad is super confused on how to argue with me on this, because he knows he can't, and maintain his conservative family values stance.

Date: 2008-09-13 02:25 am (UTC)Do you know how many kids Stephane Dion has? Or John McCain? Or Joe Biden?
I think the fact that Palin is ridiculously unqualified for the job is much more worrisome than the fact that her husband will have to raise their kids (only two or three of which would actually need raising).

Date: 2008-09-13 06:54 am (UTC)Stephane Dion himself went abroad to adopt his daughter after years of infertility (and no I did not just look that up). Joe Biden has... four children I think... who nearly died in a car wreck when their mother died. He strongly considered resigning (it was his first term as senator). I think he should have, but that's done now as they are all grown. John McCain has several adult children, one with Cindy biologically, and one they adopted from Bangladesh who was 8 when he ran against Bush in 2000 and they (BushCo) used her to smear McCain, doing a poll asking if people would vote for him if they knew he fathered an illegitimate black baby (Bridget McCain looks black to the stupid average white folk eye). She is 18 now and quite vocal in her father's campaign.
I looked up none of the following, this is all from memory.
How could you think I would not know about candidates family lives? Hello, how long have you known me? ;-)
