This would be a dead heat tie between Brussel Sprouts and Grapefruit.

I refer to grapefruit as "proof that god makes mistakes." Clearly it was "Orange 0.1". I mean wtf we use it as a CLEANER.

I do like grapefruit juice mixed with other juices/drinks, likely due to my diet soda addiction as I can't deal with sweet drinks anymore.

Brussel sprouts however.... god. Nothing redeeming there at all. Smell like skunk, taste like ....vomitous skunk soaked cabbage... BLYEARGHK. Wrong food.

Keep in mind I am the girl who eats food people offer her with NO IDEA what it actually is while travelling abroad, through southeast Asia. And yet, those two are the top, by a LONG shot, of my wretch list.

I've thought of this for years and I do intend to open one on my 40th birthday as a present to myself, serving the kind of food I love, and love to cook. Family style grilling/picnic fare, everything from fried chicken and mashed potatoes to fabulous take out picnic baskets with bread and wine and cheese and nuts and fruits.

However, I've gotten an extreme bug lately to really get a healthy delivery place going. A place serving delicious healthy wraps and sandwiches, lean cuts of meat, delicious roasted vegetables, fresh fabulous salad's like the ones at Mandy's and basically just good healthy fabulous stuff. I truly do believe people would go for it. You can only eat so many burgers, poutines, BBQ chickens, smoked meats, and greek fare before you get bored ya know?

Our Suzuki Swift (which I still mourn deeply) that died in 2006 was David, of course.

Our current one is Saigo. As in the last samurai. It's a freaking '94 Corolla! I am torn on this one as someday I'd like to have an Akita named Saigo, but figure it will be loooooooooong gone before the dog since my next two are a rottie and pit bull.

there's something effed up about all my fundie xian friends on FB "liking" the group:

DEAR LORD, THIS YEAR YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE ACTOR, PATRICK SWAYZIE. YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE ACTRESS, FARAH FAWCETT. YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE SINGER, MICHAEL JACKSON. I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW, MY FAVORITE PRESIDENT IS BARACK OBAMA. AMEN.

There's not a total stick up my butt: I laughed when I read it- and I voted for the guy! But there's something about people calling themselves Xian and "liking" that which rubs me the wrong way, especially how because this week I've been wrestling with how it's truly wrong to pray for someone's death.

And yes this is a public entry.

Getting lost in whether or not hate speech laws are appropriate, I was really missing the point I feel. And so here is a concise prose on my thoughts on the Coulter nonsense.

Ann Coulter exercised her free speech rights and scheduled to come to U of Ottawa (I'll hold aside my rant on my Canadian taxpayer dollars paying for a non Canadian with no serious concept of our country and issues to come speak on said issues).

Francis Houle then exercised his free speech rights and reminded her we have hate speech laws here and to watch her mouth. Reasonable based on her suggesting a student "take a camel" if she doesn't "have a flying carpet" when the woman asked how she should travel when Coulter recommended during a public speech that Muslims be whole scale barred from flying. (I'll hold aside my rant on naive Canadian journalists who refer to her as a shock jock and entertainment. Coulter is dead fucking serious and she has a dead fucking serious following. You people know not of what you speak. Really.)

Some people then exercised their free speech rights and protested. Based on all the attention this was garnering, Coulter's security team decided the venue was unsafe. They were offered another venue where they could provide better security and more room in order to exercise their free speech rights.

THEY DECLINED.

Now every journalist across Canada is screaming about free speech blah blah blah and I'm trying to figure out where free speech was violated. When the Beatles came and had to hold their concerts in venues allowing for security to keep everyone, fans and Beatles and their protesters (Yes! People did indeed protest at Beatles concerts!), safe, no one screamed "OMG FREE SPEECH IS BEING VIOLATED!" No, they did what they needed to do to keep everyone safe. The Beatles didn't take it as a time to pull a publicity stunt and take their guitars and go home and cry about free speech. They moved to where more people could see them and be safe and ignored the protesters.

So no, sorry, U of O are not a "bunch of fucking crybabies" a one Miss Ann Coulter is, and shame shame SHAME on the Canadian Press for running with it. Shame on you indeed.

And that's all I have to say about that.

and I am so, incredibly, totally, massively glad I live in a country with limits on free speech, no matter what the naive journalists may say about it.

Chips

On a friend's blog, someone (American, obviously) commented that we (Canadians) seem to have a big chip on our shoulder when it comes to hockey and we shouldn't be so upset about last night's (embarrassing) match against the US. And honestly, yk, I just found that kind of offensive, like it's no big deal, we need not be so upset.

You know, when the NHL decides to expand into the wealthier American market, and you take beloved teams with a solid fan base like the Jets, and stick them somewhere snow has never occurred naturally* (Phoenix) (meaning kids don't grow up playing and knowing and loving hockey, as in then building a solid culturally accurate fan base for the sport) then due to this dumb move bankrupt them, then refuse to let them come home where people love them, yeah, we might have a chip.

And that's just one little example. But that comment that guy made, it really showcased for me how for them it's just a game. Even the most girly girly-girls I know "follow" hockey. Even ones who protest they do not and know nothing about the sport can be proven to be liars, much like I was when insisting I knew nothing of football while living in Nebraska. Simply not true.

For us, it's a culture, a sport, like Britain and soccer. So yeah, sorry, but having the Americans come, after going all big market US Style has changed the NHL in ways many Canadians are sad about and know will never be reversed, and then shamefully kicking our asses, yeah, sorry, it hurt, and no, it wasn't just a game or just a prelim for us. It was sad and embarrassing and sort of like watching Babe Ruth get struck out. Depressing.

*I do believe NHL teams can thrive and survive in snowless places. Places such as LA, Las Vegas, Annaheim for example I am certain could sustain teams for very long term indeed due to the wealth and celebrity factor. Phoenix, Tampa, South Carolina, Nashville (they can't even sustain football there for fuck's sake) Dallas, are you kidding me? I bet anyone reading this $100 in 2030 money that all those teams will fold by 2030. Hands down.

Stop fucking complaining people don't read your book and just let their babies cry and then blame you. You know why no one reads your stupid book? It's 440 pages long. Without the index. You're marketing it toward exhausted burnt out parents and you write 440 freaking pages. Pamphlet next time.

Love,
tired mommy who is sick of her husband suggesting they read your lovely book. I look at it and get nauseated by its thickness. I hardly have the attention span to read a newspaper article. Your book? Are you kidding me?

*sigh*

Pat and I were up late working on a couple projects. Because I fed him something nutritious and healthy for supper (seafood soup) he got hungry around midnight and we ordered some smoked meat and a poutine.

When he opened his smoked meat, we both looked at it. I blurted out "what the hell?!?!" Pat was speechless.

Finally I said "I need to get my camera."

Me and the husband is expecting round about August 11. We're calling it Simba for now, being born in Leo and all.

And yes we're quite thrilled. :-) He was telling everyone and their dog (crowing to put it mildly) so I had to call the whole family and let them know as I was scared someone was going to blab on facebook soon enough!

So now you can all know too :-)

A bunch of men arguing about the legal versus societal definition of rape and whether or not it's technically right to say someone wasn't raped if the person forcing unwanted sex on them was mentally retarded since according to the criminal code this means the person isn't responsible for their actions. Including use of the word feminazi.

Indeed.

asking questions and disagreeing with the premise of the "no bottled water" campaign and asking for clarification and engaging in discussion instead of just saying "WOW AWESOME!" is in fact enough to get banned from [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] WTFever. From now on I'll just smile.

Apparently, pointing out the several times Montreal has had water warnings is not appropriate either. Neither is pointing out how culturally insensitive an "our drinking water is totally awesome!" campaign can be for people who come from areas where drinking from the tap is akin to drinking toilet water. Neither is pointing out that some people's tap water may taste funny because of pipes which are often unable to be changed due to cost or the building being rented. Oh and pointing out that saying a place is "family friendly" is akin to saying "black people love us!" in a province where it's illegal to discriminate based on familial status is not cool at all either. Okay. Whatever. Let's hear it for PC cause promotion and lack of discussion.

Oh but apparently it is *totally* okay to harass me in the community for months. This behaviour allows continued posting privileges. [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] mods, go fuck yourselves indeed. I'd tell you in your community, but, well... if I could tell you there, I wouldn't! :-D

The SPCA is currently quite full of rabbits. As such, we would need your help to foster an animal or aid us in finding foster homes.

I am pretty sure I'd do it as long as we're talking egg or sperm donation here and not surrogacy. I'm not sure I'd be a good candidate for that after the difficult pregnancy I had with CJ. However, I'd only do it if it was handled somewhat like an open adoption. As in the child just grew up knowing they came from my egg or Pat's sperm or whatever, and we could see and interact with the kid like extended family. Favourite aunt and uncle or something like that. Interestingly, I do not think I could do it if it was my egg AND his sperm together. One of the parties would have to be a donor not in our couple.

My opinion has changed wildly on this over the years. Reason? I talked to a woman who was adopted and found her birth mother years later. She (adoptee) became an egg donor because she thought the idea of going through an entire pregnancy and then giving your baby up was just a horrible burden to place on a mother, and that as long as there were women wanting to be mothers, there would continue to be coercion on women in less-than-fabulous circumstances to give up their babies (like how her mom was coerced). So she felt with every egg she donated, that was one less mother coerced into giving a child up. For some reason, that made a lot of sense to me.

Edited to answer the last part of the Q: How it would affect the friendship/relationship would depend entirely on who was the recipient!
